History & Heritage

Every building has a soul, and ours has been the heartbeat of Ely for nearly a century. Established in 1938 as the Ely Community Center, this structure was built to bring people together—a purpose it continues to serve today as Hotel Elysium.

Art Deco in the Wilderness Constructed during the WPA era, the building is a rare gem of Art Deco architecture in the Northwoods. When we undertook the project to “remaster” the property for its 2026 reopening, our goal was preservation, not just renovation.

A New Chapter As you walk through the Lobby Bar or settle into your suite, look closely. The solid lines, the historic blueprints, and the sense of permanence remain. We have simply added the layers of modern comfort—plush bedding, a world-class spa, and fine dining.

We invite you to step inside and become part of the next chapter of this storied landmark.

Online booking for Hotel Elysium will be available soon.
